Inglês - Prova 2

    Texto para as questões 1 e 2:

(Fuvest 2005) Come summer 2006, Warner Brothers Pictures hopes to usher "Superman" into thousands of theaters after a 19-year absence. But given the tortured history surrounding that studio's attempts to revive "Superman," the forerunner of Hollywood's now-ubiquitous comic-book blockbusters, the Man of Steel's arrival would be nothing short of a miracle. Since Warner began developing a remake of the successful comic-book franchise in 1993, it has spent nearly $10 million in development, employed no fewer than 10 writers, hired four directors and met with scores of Clark Kent hopefuls without settling on one. The latest director . Bryan Singer, who directed "X-Men" and its sequel, was named on July 18 to replace Joseph McGinty Nichol, known as McG, who left the project after refusing to board a plane to Australia, where the studio was determined to make the film. 3. Texto para as questões 3, 4 e 5:

London was more prepared for the oubreak of the second world war than the central government let on. After all, if you were seeking peace through diplomacy, it was unwise to tell the citizenry how far you feared the worst.
For London, the worst was aerial bombing on a scale not previously known. If not quite the greatest city in the world in 1939, London was certainly among the most expansive. Over 8 million people - about one fifth of the British population - lived there, concentrated in an area of some 750 square miles. It was an inviting target for anything that the Germans could drop on it, and the government knew it.

As old barriers break down, voyagers in the next century will enjoy more exotic locales, more exotic customs - and perhaps more exotic diseases. This year's Ebola virus oubreak in Zaïre raises an issue as chilling now as it was in 1347, when traders sailing from the Black Sea port of Caffa to Messina, Sicily, brought back plague, which killed perhaps one-third of Europe's population. As it happens, plague also cropped up in 1994, in India.

  11. Texto para as questões 9 e 10:

Between the initial invitation and the final arbitration lies the fate of millions of Americans who wish to attend the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Getting tickets will be only half the battle - and perhaps the easier half. There's also the problem of finding a place to stay. Fortunately Atlanta is a major convention city with enourmous hotel space. A majority of the rooms are controlled already by the Atlanta Commitee for the Olympic Games (ACOG); and many hotels and motels are holding back their rooms to avoid speculative overbooking. As a result, says one Midwest travel agent, "there are people booking rooms in Alabama."
There is, of course, an easier way to see the games. Most Americans, in the end, will settle for watching the Olympics from home, content not to fight the crowds or swim in the humidity. NBC is betting $456 milion on just that.
